BIO:
There hasn’t been a time when I wasn’t making art or working with my hands.
My first passion is drawing. Pencil, charcoal, and colored pencil were my favorite mediums.
Within the last 3 years, I decided to try oil painting because I wanted to explore color and strive to “free” my creative self.
I saw the sculpture, King Lear, at Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. I was so moved I decided I should make a painting of it. Painting King Lear was a defining moment of awakening for me and from there my passion for art has grown even deeper and far-reaching.
Painting has freed me and I find creativity in so many other areas of my life.
Thank you for your consideration,
Sincerely,
Deann Scarpa

The next set of images are from our Second Place Winner Maureen Mc Laughlin.
I am a 49yr old mom that works for a bank, but likes to escape the city on weekends. I enjoy going on adventures with my camera in hand to the shore and parks. Waiting to see what captures my eye.My awakening has been a gradual one over the past 6 years. The excitement I get when I look inside my photo and find a picture. When my mind's eye sees something I have to try a capture it. I take pleasure in sharing my pictures and seeing how much everyone enjoys them.
Thanks,
Maureen McLaughlin

Our next Winner is Philip Vitale.
Hi my name is Philip Vitale and I have enjoyed Photography for many years . Recently I have gotten more serious about this art form and have been exploring through the lens as much as I can. I have volunteered at Wheaton Arts and joined several nature clubs in order to have the opportunity to sharpen my abilities. In the last 2 years I have become more attuned to the wildlife, Nature , and art of our area here in Southern New Jersey. It is almost like seeing nature for the first time and realizing the beauty all around us. In my submissions I feel I have expressed that this beauty can exist in a backlit tree against a Winter sunset or the Calmness of a White Winged Dove asleep during a snow storm. The making of Glass has become a fascination. While Volunteering at Wheaton Arts I have experienced this art form and the amazing people who create these beautiful works of art. The photo I submitted is of an artist constructing a Millville Rose Paperweight. Here he is heating it in a Glory Hole.

Artist Bio
Shifting shapes, forms and spaces erupt, mingle, dissipate and reconnect in a cyclical motion. The visual language I'm seeking represents the spiritual essence that exists in and around us. The spiritual energy constantly shape-shifts to become a new entity, and returns yet again to the cycle from whence it came. The shifting concepts of our familiar world and being are tunneled through these pieces, which are composite manifestations of limitless expression.
Artistic Awakening
Sonar Waves was a continuation of a series of spiritual discovery, where the first painted piece acts as a powerful and dominant combustion of oil pastel energy. Initially, the purple shape was going to have the most dominance in terms of color and texture. I came to realize that the pale purple sinks into the shifting space, whereas the green shape takes on a more dominating form. Conceptually and visually, the purple form was going to be the frontrunner, but the green form played it out more forcefully through the paint. Sonar Waves is the first piece in this series in which the acrylic accidentally (and interestingly) altered the energy struggle of one shape to another.

One of our many talented contestants was Rebecca Burgard. Photos below.
"Overall my main objective was to create two more pieces to go with "WAKE UP" but make them different. Showing a artist should step out of the box and do different things even when one might not be comfortable doing so. I came up with making a person, place, and thing with all my pieces as well to show the creativity I have to offer with my RBkreationz artwork. "
